Trinity Superior Court in Weaverville is sponsoring Juror Appreciation Week to recognize Trinity County residents for their invaluable contribution to the justice system and to highlight the honor and importance of serving on a jury.
On May 20, 2008, the regularly scheduled jury trial day, the court will display banners of appreciation and will serve the jurors summoned for that day coffee, tea and juice, along with breakfast snacks and fruit donated by the court staff.
According to Donna Hanover, Jury Commissioner, the objective of Juror Appreciation Week is to show past and prospective jurors that their contributions are valued by the court. Posters will be placed in public locations with the aim of reaching jurors with a message that not only offers thanks but emphasizes the vital importance of jury service. “Our county is very fortunate to have so many cooperative members in our community who not only recognize, but are committed to performing this important civic duty. If prospective jurors do not respond to our questionnaires, it reduces the pool of people involved in shaping the justice system and may even cause a delay in getting cases tried,” Ms. Hanover said.
She added that prospective jurors may now check the Court web-site at Trinity Courts - Jury Instructions. “We want every juror to feel appreciated and to know that we value their time and commitment.”
